Rocky Ford Solar Project
About the Project:
Rocky Ford Solar is a privately funded solar energy project designed to provide clean power while bringing meaningful benefits to Nottoway County. By combining reliable technology with a strong commitment to community values, the project will generate long-term value for both residents and the environment.

Northwest of the Robertsons Siding Road and The Falls Road intersection.

The Rocky Ford Solar Project will have a capacity of 70 megawatts (MW), enough to power tens of thousands of homes with clean electricity. The project will be built on approximately 780 acres of fenced-in land located northwest of Robertsons Siding Road and The Falls Road intersection.
This size was carefully selected to maximize energy production while keeping the project footprint manageable and compatible with the surrounding area. By using efficient solar technology, Rocky Ford Solar will help meet Virginia’s growing energy needs without increasing emissions or pollution.
-
Construction will be carefully managed to minimize disruption.
Work will occur in phases, with limited activity at any given time.
Construction is short-term compared to the decades-long operational life of the facility.
Local contractors, suppliers, and service providers will be prioritized whenever possible, bringing new jobs and economic activity to the county.
Beyond construction, the project will continue to benefit the community by providing new sources of tax revenue and ongoing investment.
-
Once construction is complete, the project will operate quietly and with very little daily activity:
Sound: Solar panels themselves generate no sound. The only equipment with sound—small inverters—will be located deep within the project footprint, so no noise will be heard beyond the project boundary.
Traffic: The facility does not require permanent on-site staff, meaning no daily traffic.
Environment: The project uses no water to operate and produces no emissions, helping protect local resources.
Visuals: Existing tree buffers will be preserved, and new screening will be added where needed to reduce visibility for neighbors.
The result is a facility that fits seamlessly into the landscape, operating quietly in the background while producing clean energy for decades.scription

The safety of the community, workers, and environment is a top priority.
Materials: The solar panels selected for Rocky Ford Solar do not contain cadmium or other hazardous materials.
Standards: All equipment meets or exceeds federal and state safety and environmental requirements.
Health: The project produces no pollution, waste, or emissions—helping to ensure clean air and water for residents.
With these safeguards, the project is designed to deliver reliable energy with minimal risk.
